Gov. Nikki Haley was in Greenville Monday to kick off her re-election campaign.

Haley hosted a free rally at the Bi-Lo Center and had support from fellow Republican Govs. Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry and Scott Walker at the event.

All four governors attended a fundraiser at a Greenville home after the rally. Tickets for the fundraiser were available to the public online and started at $1,000 per couple.

"After much prayer and consideration, Michael [Haley] and I decided to humbly ask the people for their blessing and support to continue to lead as Governor," Haley announced in an email before the rally on Monday.

Haley's announcement sets up a likely rematch of the 2010 governor's race, when Haley got 51 percent of the vote and beat Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen of Camden, who received 47 percent. Sheheen announced his gubernatorial bid in April.

"While running for governor in 2009, I promised the people of South Carolina that I would work tirelessly to help promote new job creation and bring economic growth to every corner of the State," Haley said in a statement.

"While there's more work to be done, our jobless rate has dropped to a new 5-year low, we've announced 36,000 jobs in 45 of 46 counties, and South Carolina tops the list as one of the fastest growing economies in the nation. And we've moved 18,000 off of welfare and into jobs," she said.

The South Carolina Democratic Party held a press conference outside of the Bi-Lo Center just before the event.

The South Carolina American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and South Carolina Democratic Women's Council has planned a demonstration outside of the Bi-Lo Center Monday afternoon to protest Haley and the other GOP governors in attendance.
