State and local authorities investigate the discovery of a woman's body in Gray Court. (Aug. 23, 2013/FOX Carolina)
GRAY COURT, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The body of a woman who was found in a pasture near a Gray Court home on Friday has yet to be identified, according to the Laurens County coroner.
Coroner Nick Nichols said the woman was shot in the neck. The body was in a pasture along Bramlett Church Road.
The body was discovered when a man was clearing an overgrown pasture between for a woman who owns the property. The man thought he saw a mannequin in the field and called the woman's granddaughter to have her remove it.
The woman and her fiance discovered that it was actually a woman's body. Nichols said the body had been there for several days.
He said he is working around the clock with the help of the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, Laurens County Sheriff's Office and State Law Enforcement Division to identify Jane Doe. Nichols said they are working as quickly as they can and don't have a time frame for how long it will take to identify her.
Greenville deputies said they are looking into the possibility that it is a missing person from Greenville County.
