Funeral services to be held today for Beacon Barker J.C. Stroble

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Funeral services for J.C. Stroble, the famed "call it" man at The Beacon Drive-In, will be held on Sunday.

John C. "J.C." Stroble, 71, was known for calling orders at the Beacon Drive-In in Spartanburg. He was recently hospitalized following a fall and passed away on Monday.

The funeral service is at 2pm Sunday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Bishop Charles J.J. Jackson, III will officiate.

The family said the public and media are also welcome to attend his funeral.

The procession will pass by the Beacon  The procession route is on the family's CaringBridge site in four steps, as follows:

A. Cornerstone Baptist Church, 700 S Converse St., Spartanburg, SC 29306

  • Head southwest on Collins Ave.
  • Continue onto Bomar Ave.
  • Continue onto Crescent Ave.

B. Beacon Drive-In

  • Turn right onto John B White Sr Blvd (Drive pass the Beacon Drive-In)

C. JC Stroble Blvd.

  • Turn right onto S 206/JC StrobleBlvd.

D. Greenlawn Memorial Gardens

  • Continue on JC Stroble Blvd. to W. Henry St.
  • Continue to follow W Henry St. to E. Henry St.
  • Turn left onto S Pine St.
  • Turn right onto E. Main St.
  • Continue to follow E Main St
  • Turn right onto S 538/FernwoodGlendale Rd
  • Turn left into Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307

"You can't think of the Beacon without thinking of JC, you can't separate the two," said Sam Maw, co-owner of The Beacon. "So I think his memory as long as we're open, his memory will be alive."

The church is located at 700 S. Converse St, Spartanburg. J.W. Woodward Funeral Home is making the arrangements.

The family says that, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Capital Building Campaign at the church's address above or to the JC Stroble Glaucoma Awareness Foundation, Post Office Box 2202, Spartanburg, SC 29304.  JC had been diagnosed with glaucoma years ago and his daughter started the foundation to help people pay for eye exams.
