SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police are investigating the theft of a Publix shopper's wallet from her purse that is connected to a similar incident last week.

A woman was buying groceries at the East Main Street store just after noon on Tuesday when she realized her wallet was missing from her purse when she went to check out, according to the police report.

She went out to her car to see if it was there, but it wasn't, police said. When the manager checked the store's cameras, they saw a man wearing a white hat and green floral print shirt walk up to her cart on the frozen foods aisle, the report said.

Then he's seen reaching into her purse, taking her wallet then walking out of the store, all while she was not looking, police said.

Police said someone did the same thing to another shopper last week and they believe the incidents to be connected. They said the suspect was wearing the same hat during both thefts.

Police provided surveillance from the first theft but were not able to provide footage for the second one.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
