Two women have lost their lives after the car they were in was struck by a suspected impaired driver Thursday afternoon in Phoenix.
Police identified the victims on Friday as 35-year-old Nerty De Gutierrez and 29-year-old Elvia Gutierrez.
Police said a 28-year-old man driving a sports car at a high rate of speed allegedly ran a red light and collided with a vehicle carrying the two women, about 1 p.m. Thursday near 43rd Avenue and Indian School Road.
The women were taken to the hospital where they died.
Police said the man is being treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and he'll be charged upon his release.
