SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg man has been sentenced to 25 years for abusing two 18-month-old-twins.

A jury found Randall Matheny, 27, guilty of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11 years of age and two counts of unlawful conduct towards a minor.

The solicitor said the fraternal twins were both hospitalized with injuries in May of 2011.

The boy twin had bruises on his head and body. The female twin had bruising all over her body along with signs of sexual abuse, the solicitor Barry Barnette said.

Barnette said Matheny admitted to penetrating the little girl during his trial testimony but Matheny claimed it was not in a sexual manner.

"Both children were covered with bruises," the Assistant Solicitor Susan Reese said. "They have already endured more pain than most people will experience in their entire lives."

The solicitor said Matheny, who was previously convicted for possession of cocaine or methamphetamine, will have to serve 80 percent of the prison sentence before he is eligible for release.

Matheny will also have his named added to the sex offender registry.

The victims' mother pleaded guilty to child neglect earlier this year and received a 10-year prison sentence that was suspended to 5 years of probation.
