LAURENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man who deputies said is a suspect in the death of Myranda Southern was denied bond on Friday afternoon.

Deputies said Darrell Ervin Raines Jr., 33, was arrested after a joint effort between the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). On Friday, a judge denied him bond.

Chastain said Raines met Myranda Southern online, and they met in person for the first time a week before her death.

Raines is currently being held at the Laurens County jail from Greenville County.

Chastain said Raines is being charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime by the Laurens County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say they can't release a motive at this time, but are confident the evidence proves Raines committed the murder. Raines parents told FOX Carolina that their son is innocent, they believe he has been framed. They said Raines had called them since his arrest, and told them he didn't do it.

Southern was last seen alive on Aug. 19 in Greenville County. Her body was found the following Friday in a grassy area off of Bramlett Church Road in Gray Court.

A friend of Southern said she was shocked to learn Raines was charged in her death, she says he was the last person that was known to have spoken to Southern Aug. 19.

FOX Carolina spoke with Southern's estranged husband, Shawn Southern, about the beloved Upstate mother. Shawn Southern said the events have been a complete shock, and it still hasn't sunk in that this happened to the mother of his children.

"You hear something like this happened and you think somebody was just in a bad spot or was a bad person," said Southern. "Myranda, she was a person that didn't deserve that. She was a good, good hearted woman. She didn't deserve it."

Southern said he has legal custody of the couple's children, and is hoping to have them home from Florida soon.

Deputies said the investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone who may have any information regarding Myranda Southern's murder is asked to call the Laurens County Sheriff's Office at 864-984-4967 or Laurens County Crime Stoppers at 864-68-CRIME.
