Two convenience stores were robbed in Spartanburg County in two days and investigators are looking to see if the same man is behind the hold-ups, according to Spartanburg police.

Capt. Regina Nowak with Spartanburg Public Safety said the Corner Stop on Hayne Street was robbed at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and then the Valero on Garner Road was robbed about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

In Wednesday's robbery, Nowak said a man came into the store, walked around, picked up a bottle of Gatorade and waited in line.

He got in line behind a few other customers and let the man behind him go in front, Nowak said. She said once he got up to the register, he asked for a pack of cigarettes, and then when the clerk turned around, he pulled out a gun, pointed it at him and told him to put all of the money in a bag.

He ran away from the store towards the bridge, police said.

Police said the robber was about 5'10" tall, weighed about 180 pounds, was wearing a light stone-washed jeans and a gray T-shirt with a red 83 on the back. He had dark hair and a mustache.

Nowak said the Corner Stop robber looks like the same man seen on surveillance from the Valero-Li'l Cricket robbery on Thursday.

According to Spartanburg County deputies, a man entered that store, picked up some items, gave the clerk a bank card when he went to pay, but the card was declined.

She asked him to step aside so she could checkout other customers, and once they left, he asked if she would like to make some money, according to the deputy's report.

She asked him how that would work, then he pulled out a gun, told her he would split the money with her and demanded she put the cash from the register in a shopping bag, deputies said.

He ran away and was spotted walking along some railroad tracks and going inside an abandoned building but was not located by law enforcement, according to the report.

He was described as a young man wearing black baggy pants, an orange shirt and a blue baseball cap, deputies said. Deputies said they are still reviewing the surveillance video from the county case.

Anyone who can identify him or has information about the robberies is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
