Labor Day storms could affect your plans

Posted: Updated:

Happy Labor Day!  We've had a really nice weekend overall, despite some late day storms rolling through on Sunday.  If you're lucky enough to have the day off today, know that you might need the umbrella a time or two.  Early on, we're looking at a mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s in the Upstate, with lower 80s in the mountains.  A cold front is approaching from the Northwest, so we could see a few isolated morning rain showers.  Later today, as the front gets closer, we will start to see a few thunderstorms become scattered across our area.  Brief downpours could cause ponding on the roads, and minor flooding in some cases.  If you've got plans to BBQ, head to the Hendersonville Apple Festival or maybe get out to the Harvest Moon Festival in Simpsonville, keep your plans, but keep a close eye on the sky as well as the radar on our FOX Carolina cell phone app.  Storms will become more likely in the mid-to-late afternoon hours.

Once this front passes, the weather is going to take a turn for the better.  Still a warm day Tuesday, we'll see a lot more sunshine with highs in the upper 80s, and just a slim chance for a passing thunderstorm.  Moving toward midweek, the heat subsides (a bit) and the humidity does too.  This means from Wednesday through Friday we're back to temperatures in the upper 70s to mid-80s, lessened humidity, and plentiful sunshine.

Now, to an update on the Tropics.  Nothing major to be concerned with, but we're keeping an eye on a Tropical Wave that's sitting over the Caribbean right now.  The disturbance has a 40% chance of development into a Tropical Storm.  Still a long ways away from determining if this could mean anything significant for us, but we are in the height of the tropical season, so we'll keep you posted on any threat to the US.  Have a great day!
