GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County Animal Care reopened its doors Tuesday following the disinfection and quarantine of animals for several days and is hoping to find homes for more than 200 cats.

Workers cleaned the shelter, treated the dogs and kept the animals under quarantine after one dog died from canine influenza. They said they chose to close the shelter for nearly two weeks out of an abundance of caution.

To help find homes for the animals, they will be adopting out cats for free starting Tuesday when the shelter opens at noon.

Cats cannot get the dog flu and the county has more than 200 felines looking for a good home.

Dogs are available for pre-adoption, but people will not be allowed to take them home until Sept. 10.

Greenville County Animal Care is located at 328 Furman Hall Rd. and will be open from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for the free feline adoptions.
