Greenville County deputies say they need the public's help finding an armed robber who killed the 29-year-old owner of Illusions Smoke Shop.

Ross McClellan was gunned down inside the shop on Poinsett highway Friday night. The coroner's office said McClellan died from a single gunshot wound.

Deputy Drew Pinciaro said deputies arrived within minutes of receiving 911 calls of an armed robbery at the McClellan's shop but were unable to locate the suspect. Deputies said the suspect fled on foot.

FOX Carolina spoke with Joshua Adams, the owner of the barber shop next door to the smoke shop, who said he heard the fatal shots being fired.

"We heard a loud noise," said Adams. "Then we heard something bump up against the wall."

Adams said McClellan had just recently bought the business and was excited about getting it going.

"Seemed to be a nice fellow. We were going to have a customer appreciation that weekend and he helped get the balloons set up," said Adams.

A funeral fund was set up for McClellan on Sept. 3 by his friends. Donations to help with funeral costs can be made at any Bank of Travelers Rest branch under the name Ross McClellan.

Funeral arrangements have been made at the Thomas McAfee Northwest Chapel at 6710 White Horse Rd. The visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 5, from noon to 1:15 p.m., with the funeral and burial directly following.

Deputies are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME.
