TSA screening program to allow faster security checks for Bradley and Logan passengers

Posted: Updated:

Bradley International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport will soon allow passengers to pay $85 to go through security faster without the hassle of removing items of clothing.

The Transportation Security Administration announced Wednesday that it will implement its expedited screening program to 100 airports across the nation.

According to TSA, the program will allow airline travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belts. TSA said travelers can also keep their laptops with them along with a carryon containing liquids and gels that meet TSA standards.

But in order to participate in the precheck program, the TSA said travelers must meet certain qualifications. Passengers who are eligible for TSA precheck include U.S. citizens of frequent traveler programs invited by participating airlines. Additionally, TSA said U.S. citizens who are members of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Trusted Traveler program and Canadian citizens who are members of CBP's NEXUS program qualify to participate.

According to CNN.com, the TSA said that it will launch an application process to allow passengers who want to join PreCheck to pay $85 while verifying their identity and providing fingerprints at an enrollment center later this year.

Officials said the program is expected to go into effect at Bradley International Airport before the end of 2013.
