Blazers win season opener against Fort Valley State

The Blazers opened its national title defense with a 36-21 win over Fort Valley State last night.

Fort Valley scored on the opening with a 7-yard run from QB Eugene Smith. Jeremy Grable proceeded to block the extra point and returned it back to earn two points for the Blazers. QB Cayden Cochran found Regginald Lewis on the next possession from 16 yards to give VSU its first lead at 9-6.

The Blazers would go on to lead 29-8 at half. Cochran finished with 285 yards and 3 TD passes. Cedric O'Neal totaled 101 yards on 9 carries.

The Blazers totaled 454 yards. Valdosta State has a bye next week and returns to action Saturday, September 21 when it hosts Shorter.
