City employee arrested following serious crash

Posted: Updated:

A City of Hartford employee was arrested following a late-night crash Saturday.

According to police, Department of Public Works employee Rhonda Moniz-Carroll was arrested and charged with driving under the influence following the crash, which injured another woman.

Police say officers were dispatched to the area of Prospect Avenue and Farmington Avenue for the crash. When officers arrived, they found one of the drivers apparently unconscious. The female later woke up and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The second vehicle was a 2012 city-owned Ford Escape, driven by Moniz-Carroll. Police say she showed signs of intoxication and traffic DUI units responded and processed the scene.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. A preliminary investigation revealed that the Ford Escape was traveling south on Prospect Avenue and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head on with the traveling northbound.

Moniz-Carroll was charged with DUi and failure to drive in the proper lane.
