NEWBERRY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton said a Newberry High School student was hit and killed by a train Saturday.

Newton said 16-year-old Chamone McGraw was killed instantly after being struck by a northbound CSX train near Cline Street around 6 p.m.

Newton said McGraw was walking southbound on the railroad tracks and may not have heard or seen the train because he was using his cell phone.

Newton said McGraw died of blunt force trauma and the death has been ruled accidental.

The Newberry City Police Department and the Newberry County Coroner's Office is investigating.
