GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville police said they are investigating a strong armed robbery of a teacher at the Sterling School Monday morning.

Police are searching the area looking for the robber, who grabbed the teacher in the back parking lot of the John McCarroll Way school and stole her wallet, according to Johnathan Bragg with Greenville police.

He said the robbery happened about 6:45 a.m. and she suffered minor injuries.

Greenville County Schools spokesman Oby Lyles said the third grade teacher was mugged as she got out of her car. Because of the crime, he said they have increased security in and around the school.

Lyles said the school was not put on lockdown because the suspect left the area before students arrived and police remained on campus. He said parents were being notified about the incident.

Bragg called the teacher a victim of opportunity, not hurt, but shaken up. Lyles said she took Monday off of work but will be back in the classroom Tuesday.

Bragg posted on the Greenville police Facebook page,"Suspect is a black male, red shirt, black hoodie and jeans."
