COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Piedmont man's plan to play the lottery regularly paid off when he won more than $200,000.

The man told South Carolina Education Lottery officials he was buying Palmetto Cash 5 tickets regularly for two months when he bought the winning quick pick ticket for the Aug. 31 drawing.

His winning ticket had two lines with winning numbers - one that matched all five numbers and another line that matched two. The winning numbers were 8, 15, 18, 22 and 27.

With his ticket in hand, he claimed a total of $200,002. The $100,000 prize was doubled because he bought the Power-Up.

The man told lottery officials he learned he won late at night as his wife was getting ready for bed. She said she heard her husband scream, "We won the lottery."

"We're going to be debt free," the winner said. The lottery said he decided not to tell the couple's kids he won.

The winning ticket was bought from the QuikTrip on Liberty Highway in Anderson, which will get a $2,000 commission for selling the claimed ticket.

"This is the first time I've ever won anything," the man said.

"It couldn't have come at a better time," his wife said. "We are so grateful."

The odds of winning $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,003,884.
