FLORENCE, AZ (CBS5) -

Ten minimum security inmates and a corrections officer were hurt when an Arizona Department of Corrections van rolled over near Florence.

The vehicle flipped about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday 20 miles south of Florence on State Route 79, Southwest Ambulance reported.

One of the inmates suffered arm and back injuries and was taken to Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix for treatment, said DOC spokesman Bill Lamoreaux.

Another inmate was treated for a minor cut to the head and six other inmates received bumps and bruises.

One of the corrections officers suffered minor injuries and is being treated at an area hospital. The second officer was not hurt, but is being checked by medical personnel as a precaution.

The employees and inmates are part of the wildland fire crew out and were returning to the Florence prison facility at the time of the mishap.

Authorities said they are trying to determine the cause of the accident.

Lamoreaux said two nurses who work for DOC's health care provider, Corizon, happened upon the accident moments after it occurred and were able to provide immediate medical attention.

Southwest Ambulance said it had five units on the scene and four helicopters were on standby.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
