SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A 91-year-old Spartanburg woman awoke to the sound of a burglar in her home Thursday morning, who stole her purse and shoved her to the ground, according to police.

Spartanburg police said they were called to the woman's Westview Boulevard home about 1:30 a.m. after the break-in.

She said she heard someone breaking in the back door, got up to check and a man holding a light shoved her to the ground, stepped over her and went in her bedroom where he grabbed her purse then fled, police said.

During the burglary, the woman told police she heard the man call her "old woman" and she recognized his voice as someone she knew.

Police said the woman's purse was the only thing stolen, which had $225, her social security card and checkbook inside.

Police have not yet said if the man she thinks broke in is a suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
