SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A James O. Thomason Shooting Range in Spartanburg recently added a dedicated pistol shooting range, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources(SCDNR) announced on Friday.

The new pistol range offers nine shooting benches, barrier-free access, improved parking and concrete flooring in the rifle sheds.

"Shooting ranges are one of the priorities of our Hunter Education program," said Alvin A. Taylor, director of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR). "Shooting ranges such as this new pistol range in Spartanburg County offer shooting opportunities across the state, and allow people to be introduced to firearms in a safe manner."

The range is open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and it is located on Horace Smith Rd near ‎ Pauline in Spartanburg County.
