Great weather expected for weekend outdoor events

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

You might've woke up with a chill Saturday morning. Temperatures dipped into the 50s across most of our area, and even into the 40s in some parts of Western North Carolina. Fox Carolina Meteorologist Andy Wood said temperatures will warm up and are expected to top out in the mid to late 70s on Saturday.

"This weekend looks primed for outstanding conditions. Low humidity, cool temperatures along with plenty of sunshine should make it a great weekend to be outside," Wood said.

Wood says a cold front moved past our area Friday, and will cool our area over the weekend.

There are plenty of outdoor events going on today if you want to head outside and enjoy the beautiful conditions.

You won't feel like you're out in the dog days of summer if you head out to Woodruff for the annual Dog Days festival, which starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and runs through Sunday. The event features food, live music, arts and crafts, and some fun animal acts and activities your pet can be involved in.

One of those acts is K9 Hangtime: a group of well-trained puppies who will show off their skills with several agility and flying disc exhibitions throughout the day, according to a media release.

Several of the dogs in K9 Hangtime will be competing in the Ultimate Air Dogs Competition as a part of the festival. Ultimate Air Dogs is a national event that has made the Dog Daze of Woodruff Festival a venue for one of its semifinal competitions.

Dogs will also display their athleticism and jumping skills in the Ultimate Air competition. The competing dogs come from all over the country and can leap up to 20 feet into a pool to capture a toy suspended mid-air, according to the release.

The event also features the Parade of Paws at 3 p.m. Saturday. During which, dogs of all breeds can compete in a costume contest. Organizers said they will be looking to award the dogs and whose owners come up with the most creative, homemade costumes.

If you'd rather see your dog a billboard around the Upstate, you might want to the Pelham Mill Bone-Nanza. The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon in Greer Saturday, at the Pelham Mill Dog Park. The free event will feature the Casting Paw Contest, in search of the next dog to be featured in the Be Freshwater Friendly ad campaign, according to Renewable Water Resources (ReWa), a wastewater treatment company serving several Upstate counties. Organizers say your dog could be the face of "pet poop etiquette," as the Be Freshwater Friendly campaign focuses on the effects of pet waste on the water supply.

Or perhaps you'd rather spend the day enjoying some music from the King of Rock ‘n Roll. The Uniquely Union festival wraps up on Saturday, with a performance from world famous Elvis impersonator Rick Alviti.

The Uniquely Union Festival also features a barbecue cook off that you can weigh in on. You can buy a bracelet and participate in the "Tasters' Choice" competition, where you taste samples from the competition cookers and vote for your favorite, according to organizers

If Elvis isn't your thing, how about a marching band competition? North Greenville University will host The Greenville County Marching Band Exhibition at 8 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature musical performances by the NGU Marching Band Crusaders, along with the bands from Greenville County's fourteen high schools. According to organizers, the evening will end with a joint performance of "America" by all schools of Greenville County.

If you're still stressed from the first week after all that, head to Henderson County for the Burntshirt Vineyards grape stomp. Organizers say the vineyards are celebrating the release of three new white wines from 2012 at the event. Participants can taste all three varieties, plus enjoy other food and wine. Organizers say visitors can also channel their inner Lucy and Ethel by helping winemakers stomp the grapes. The grape stomp happens from 4-7 p.m. Saturday.
