SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the fatal shooting of an armed man by Metro Police Saturday morning.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Chief Willie Lovett requested the GBI investigation after the shooting of Samuel Frazier, 56, on the first block of Amy Street in Savannah's southside.

Lovett requested the GBI's involvement to assure transparency of the investigation.

Investigators say police responded to a dispute at Patterson's Auto Repair Shop around 10 a.m.

Witnesses say they saw Frazier walking around with a shotgun and police say he was later shot at his home on Amy Street.

Details have not been released as to what happened in between the auto shop and Frazier's home.

Frazier was transported by Southside EMS to Memorial University Medical Center where he later died.

No other injuries were reported.
