REDDING, Calif., Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Paddle competition is set for September 21, 2013 at the majestic Brandy Creek Beach and Whiskeytown Lake in Redding, CA. Whiskeytown Lake's beautiful sapphire-blue waters, surrounded by grand mountain peaks, are perhaps the most prominent features of this race. Families and individuals traveling to race will be amazed to discover all of the activities and beauty this region has to offer. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area offers 39,000 acres surrounding the lake including four waterfalls, pristine mountain creeks, 70 miles of trails, and opportunities to explore the history of the California Gold Rush. Race day begins at 7:00 am with the increasingly popular activity, Paddleboard Yoga. All racers are encouraged to join the "On Water Yoga" session to get properly stretched and warmed before the race. Redding has become a major player for paddling sports of all kinds. With its world-class rivers and lakes, Northern California offers the perfect setting for kayaking, rafting, canoeing, and any other adventure the common or professional paddler seeks. Combine that with local paddling shops, outfitters, rental companies, The California 100 and now The California Paddle, and you have the structure for a paddling mecca.
This past May, The California 100 selected Redding as the start for the 100 mile ultra-marathon paddling race; the longest paddling race on the west coast which included Sea Kayaks, Marathon Canoes, Surfskis, Stand Up Paddle Boards and Outriggers. Presented by Rivers for Change, paddlers from across the globe came to compete and are expected again in May of 2014.
