Michigan State Police told WNEM.com that a high-speed chase over what they believe was a stolen carton of cigarettes ended Monday evening with an arrest.

MSP Trooper James Willing said around 6:30 p.m. authorities were informed about a suspect allegedly stealing a carton of cigarettes at Mister Chips Market in Bay County's Hampton Township. That man has been identified as 51-year-old Gary Lee Fulco.

Willing intercepted Fulco at Cass and Pine in Hampton Township and that's when the pursuit began.

Authorities said the chase proceeded south in to Saginaw County at speeds up to 100 mph on county roads, and 70 mph on city streets.

Police said Fulco ended up plowing through a guardrail at the dead end of Carrollton Road, through a field and back onto Michigan Avenue.

A few minutes later, Fulco ended up bailing out of his car at the intersection of Cronk and Stone in Saginaw. A K-9 unit was called in and the man was found by the dog hiding in bushes between houses, near the intersection.

Troopers said Fulco's last known address was in Midland and he's being held on charges of driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest and retail fraud.

Willing said no one was injured during the chase.
