GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Apple released not one, but two new iPhones Friday - the 5S and 5C.
This is the first time Apple has released two devices simultaneously. The release spawned lines of eager customers, with reports of people camping out more than six days ahead of the release at the Apple store in New York City.
In Greenville, the Verizon Wireless store on Woodruff Road had people arrive as early as 3 a.m. Friday. By 9 a.m. it was estimated 60 customers had walked through the door.
Many customers hoping to get their hands on the first-ever gold iPhone 5S were disappointed however, as they have not yet hit retailers, despite being marketed by Apple. Thomas Brown, Verizon's district manager for the Upstate, said the gold edition is on back-order but can still be pre-ordered.
The new 5S boasts an A7 processing chip, which, according to the Apple website, will make it two times faster than previous generations.
It also has improved iSight camera technology and Touch ID technology that memorizes a fingerprint. Touch ID allows users to unlock the phone by touching the home screen. It also approves purchases made at the App store and iTunes.
The iPhone 5C is being marketed as Apple's more durable iPhone, featuring a built-in plastic case. It also comes with a less expensive price tag.
For those finding it hard to keep up with all of the new technology, most wireless retailers have recycle and trade-in programs where customers can trade in an older device for a credit towards a new one.
