Western NC soldier dies in Afghanistan

FRANKLIN, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A soldier from western North Carolina, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, died from a "non-combat incident," according to the Department of Defense.

Sgt. William D. Brown III, 44, of Franklin, NC, died Sept. 19, in Laghman Province, Afghanistan. The soldier's death is under investigation.

Brown was assigned to the 94th Brigade Support Battalion, Fourth Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Polk, LA.
