Still no arrest in shooting of Upstate middle school student
BEREA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
An Upstate middle school student continues his recovery from a gunshot wound to his lower body after being shot by a stray bullet two weeks ago.
The shooting happened in the early hours of Sept. 8 when the teen was staying at a friends home for a sleepover. Several bullets were fired into the mobile residence in the Eldorado Mobile Home Park in Berea.
The victim and his family are still waiting for justice. Deputies say no arrests have been made in the case. The bullet hit 13-year-old CJ's lower spine, damaging three nerves and leaving him unable to walk at the time.
He remains in the hospital undergoing physical therapy to get him back on his feet. His mother, Vivian Young, said her son has kept a positive attitude despite his injury.
"He's real determined, real motivated, his attitude and everything is great," said Young.
But she says now her son is asking for justice.
"He wants the person to turn themselves in and show themselves," said Young. " Show some kind of remorse that they shot an innocent child."
