The state Ethics Commission has formally dismissed three ethics complaints from a Republican activist against the Democratic state senator running for governor.
In dismissal orders made public Monday, commissioners said they found no evidence to support GOP allegations that Sen. Vincent Sheheen of Camden violated state ethics laws.
Sheheen has said the frivolous complaints wasted the agency's time and resources.
State GOP Chairman Matt Moore said Monday the Republican Party had legitimate questions after reviewing Sheheen's campaign disclosure documents.
The complaints were filed in July. One accused Sheheen of not reporting his travel expenses to a fundraiser in Kentucky.
Sheheen drove himself to the event in his car. The commission said he did not need to reimburse himself for the gas or claim it as an in-kind donation from himself.
