SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Some of the sights seen in Oconee County will soon be a movie set for film crews and even a big-name movie star.
He's been in the region before, but it seems the Southern-born Burt Reynolds is getting back to his roots as a star of a new film called Elbow Grease, slated to film in and around Seneca.
Many of the stores on Ram Cat Alley are closed on Mondays, but next week, parts of the area may be a closed set.
The shoot schedule is set, with cast and crew scheduled to film in parts of Seneca, Walhalla, Westminister and around Lake Keowee, including downtown Seneca's Ram Cat Alley and in the Hometown Food Store.
According to Elbow Grease's Asheville-native producer, Matthew Zboyovsky, Reynolds is playing grandfather to a small-town family in the movie.
Zboyovsky said some sets will be closed, but on others, he'll want extras from the area.
Deborah Scott works downtown and said she loves Burt Reynolds.
"I hope we get to meet him since he's going to be right here on our alley," Scott said.
While he doesn't know if Reynolds will take a trip to his grocery store yet, the manager of the Hometown Food Store, Mark Rogers, knows that cameras will be rolling for at least one day as his customers keep shopping.
"Our thing was that it was an OK family-oriented film and it is, so we're OK with that," said Rogers.
Mayor Dan Alexander said he expects to see some of the cast and crew around town at things like Jazz on the Alley on Thursdays. He said there may even be some filming done there or at other town events.
It's an independent film, but while much of the cast and crew is from the region, many on the production staff definitely have Hollywood experience. They said they're excited to come south to feature their hometown roots.
Filming kicks off on Sept. 30 for about a month, with crew members staying for about three months. The producer said he hopes to have it festival-ready by the end of 2014.
And this is not Reynolds' first movie made in the area. The 1972 film Deliverance was filmed in parts of Oconee County in addition to northeast Georgia and western North Carolina.
