Deputies say the attack happened outside of Twin Palmetto Fine Foods on Highway 101. (Sept. 25, 2013/FOX Carolina)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Spartanburg restaurant worker told deputies he was attacked by an unknown man who was discovered hiding in the bathroom.
Spartanburg County deputies said they were called to Twin Palmetto Fine Foods on Highway 101 where the attack happened Wednesday night.
The owner of the restaurant, John Koutsogiannis, said his son and other employees were closing down for the night when they heard two men in the restroom and noticed that the door to the restroom was locked.
Koutsogiannis said his son also noticed two unfamiliar cars in the parking lot, so he went out to take pictures of the cars and their license plates. Reports say the men came out of the bathroom while the son was taking the pictures, and one of them attacked him.
Koutsogiannis says the man tried taking his son's phone, but the son fought back to get the phone. The son tried to run away, but the man threw him to the ground then began punching him in the face, according to reports.
Koutsogiannis said other employees then helped his son, and the men drove off.
The son suffered cuts and bruises as well as a dislocated shoulder but managed to get pictures of the men's license plates, according to his father.
Koutsogiannis says he believes the men were planning to hide in the bathroom then burglarize the restaurant once everyone left. Koutsogiannis said he also believes this incident is related to a break-in this past Friday night where burglars busted out a window and got away with some cash.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
