FOUNTAIN INN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Dylan Chappell is an Upstate dirt track racer who is using social media to help propel him into the national circuit.

From the time he was a little boy, he dreamed of driving. He begged his father for a go cart and then years later, started racing along with his best friend. Now, he hopes to take his driving to the next level. He is competing for a one-year NASCAR Camping World truck driver contract.

"When you go out there, everything just disappears before you get in there you have knots in your stomach or whatever, but as soon as the green flag drops, free I guess," Chappell said.

Chappell lives in Fountain Inn and has driven on tracks throughout North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina. He drives the number 17 car, which is the same number his grandfather also had on his race car decades ago.

Supporting him is a family affair. His brother and grandfather help work on the cars and his parents and girlfriend are always involved.

But now, Chappell is hoping total strangers will lend their support too. He is among the finalists for the Big Fan Racing Driver Competition. It is a chance to help him reach his dream, by sponsoring Chappell.

It allows donors the chance to score free pit passes or even to get their picture, name, or ad on a truck. Donations can range from as little as $2 to as much as $1000. More information is available at www.bigfanracing.tv.

Right now, Dylan Chappell is in eighth place. He plans to continue driving, spending many Friday and Saturday nights at the track. He is very thankful for any support he might receive.

"It's just the only thing I wanted to do since I was little," he said. "It's what I wanted to do."
