Georgetown fire leaves several without places to stay and work

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - The Front Street fire in Georgetown has left several businesses destroyed and displaced many people from their apartments who now must look for a place to live and work for the time being.

"The whole building is flattened down," said Ronnie Bellamy who lived above the Buzz's Roost, the same restaurant where he had been a cook for about a year. "It's gone."

Bellamy said he barely escaped the fire early this morning when he woke up to the sound of the fire cracking and popping.

"You know I lost everything," added Bellamy.  "I couldn't save nothing all I could grab was a cell phone."

Bellamy is one of several people who now must look for a new place to stay or to work.

His co-worker, Chris Knight was working at the restaurant just hours before it burned down.

"I just bartended last night, and it seemed like a normal night whenever we left the restaurant," added Knight.

Knight was bartending as a way to save of money for a big move he is making overseas.

"I'm moving to Barcelona in a month and this is a means for me to support myself here while saving for there now I'm not sure if I can support myself here," said Knight.

Despite the damage and destruction, Bellamy believes Front St. will bounce back.

"It's a beautiful place to work it's a beautiful area good business good people," added Bellamy. "I love my job."
