SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers opened southbound Interstate 85 early Thursday after a fatal crash shut it down for several hours.

The accident happened at mile marker 80 on I-85 southbound in Spartanburg County about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Troopers said an 18-wheeler and two cars were involved in the crash, but haven't released any details about how it happened. The Highway Patrol had an accident reconstruction team on the scene investigating the crash early Thursday morning.

Troopers said a woman who was riding in the passenger seat of a Ford Taurus died at the scene.  The woman who was driving the vehicle was injured and taken to the hospital.

Two other passengers riding in a Cadillac were also taken to the hospital, and the truck driver was taken to the hospital for observation, according to authorities.

The coroner, Rusty Clevenger, identified the victim as 65-year-old Brenda Sue Hope Morphew of Spartanburg. Morphew was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision, Clevenger said.

Clevenger said the investigation remains ongoing.
