Upstate shoppers have a new way to get what they need, as dozens of buy, sell, and trade Facebook pages have popped up in recent months.
One of the sites was set up by Tracy Odom of Liberty. Her site is called "Anderson, Greenville, Pickens, Oconee for Sale, Free, Barter, or Trade."
Right now, there are more than 3,000 members in the group. Some people are members so they can post items they would like to get rid of. Others post because they are in search of something specific. Either way, it is a chance for individuals to connect and barter or buy.
Odom has had a variety of items posted on her site.
"There's cars and boats, clothes, kids toys, a lot of different things like that," she said. "Household things and furniture."
Odom has sold many things herself and has even traded for a new wardrobe after losing some weight.
She believes many shoppers like the idea of using Facebook because there is a photo and a page associated with each person who posts. She said other sites, like Craigslist are more anonymous.
Odom does have advice for anyone new to the buy, sell, and trade idea. She suggests meeting anyone you are doing business with in a public place. She said many buyers and sellers will actually set up several meetings in a row, on the same day at the same location. She said it makes buying and selling more convenient.
The popularity of these sites has led to more of them are showing up on Facebook.
"Sometimes people don't have money to buy something, but they want something and may have something they're willing to trade what somebody else has, so I think it works out really well for people," she said.
