Zombie shoot and haunted attractions open in the Upstate

PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -

It's that time of year again, when bottles of fake blood run dry but the spooks are not in short supply.

Several haunted attractions opened in the Upstate on Friday to kick off the Halloween season.

FOX Carolina spoke with members of the Mad World Haunted Attraction and Zombie Shoot crew, while their more than 100-person cast prepared for opening night.

The Piedmont location boasts a quarter mile haunted trail that owners say will take guests on a 30-minute scary, but entertaining experience.

Those who will be acting in the trail told FOX they are ready for the best year yet.

"Midway through you're probably going to be shaking, at the end you're still probably going to be shaking," said Samantha McCarson. "It's scary all the way through, there's no relaxed points."

The owners behind the creepy attraction may surprise you by what inspired then to open the attraction.

"We're a Christian organization, we're probably a lot different in most that we pray with our actors and pray before we go on, pray that everyone is safe," said co-owner Tim Thompson.

Thompson says the inspiration for the haunted trail came from interactive "judgement" houses he had been through in the past. He says the experience is like being right in a movie because the actors speak and interact with you, not just jump out for a scare.

Mad World also has South Carolina's only Zombie Shoot. Each person daring to enter the attraction is given an air soft gun and a mission to complete while escaping a group of zombies. This year, the team that completes the mission the fastest will also win $300.

Tickets for the attraction can be bought at the gate or online. For more information about ticket sales, hours of operation and directions click here.
