ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

One lucky dog in Asheville may soon be a reality TV star and the spokespuppy for an Asheville-based pet food brand, all thanks to a puppy pageant.

Lots of tails were wagging as PuppyFest unfolded in Asheville.

Excited puppies and their owners strutted their stuff for the cameras at the U.S. Cellular Center. The event began at 11 a.m. and ran through 7 p.m. Saturday.

Organizers said they filmed the event, hoping to turn it into a pilot episode for a new reality TV series.

Creator Joshua Warren said the PuppyFest producers plan to pitch the show to cable networks like Animal Planet, NatGeo, and A&E.

Warren said the winning pup will also receive an endorsement deal to become the face of Green Earth Pet Food, a local business that creates all-natural, all-organic dog and cat foods.

The winning pup's owners took home a trophy and a cash prize.

Organizers said the event will also help homeless pets in the area.

Organizers said they will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Asheville Humane Society.
