SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police in Spartanburg said an 11-year-old boy was taken into custody Friday night, after a security alarm was activated at an elementary school.

Police said they responded to Cleveland Elementary School on Franklin Street around 10 p.m.

When officers entered the school, they said they saw a young boy running through an adjoining room.

Officers said they found several drink containers and hot cocoa packets strewn on the floor throughout the school.

Police said they found the boy a few blocks away, walking with an older boy, who turned out to be the suspect's brother.

While police were talking to the boys, officers said one of the children dropped an Apple IPad bearing a ticker identifying it as property of Cleveland Elementary School.

Police said the 11-year-old admitted he was in the school and had money and cocoa that he'd found inside in his pockets.

Police said the child was taken to city call.

No charge information has been released in the case.

Police did not indicate how the boy gained access to the school.
