SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg man is accused of getting into a fight and stabbing his ex-girlfriend's new  boyfriend, according to police.

Spartanburg police were called to a fight at a home on Pierpont Avenue after a man stopped by and "had words" with a woman's boyfriend.

According to the police report, Carl Bankhead, 40, came over on Sunday about 9 p.m. and a fight broke out between him and the other man.

The report said the victim is the current boyfriend of the woman who lived at the home, who Bankhead used to date. The men struggled from the living room into the bedroom where Bankhead eventually pulled out a pocket knife, cutting the victim on the hand and broke a glass over his head, according to the report.

The woman was able to help get Bankhead off her boyfriend and he left when she said she would call police, according to the report.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment and police went to Bankhead's current girlfriend's home where he was arrested.

When they spoke with Bankhead about what happened, police said he told them he had been drinking wine coolers with co-workers and decided to go check on his ex, because he knew she had issues with her current boyfriend.

He told police he exchanged words with the victim, who swung at him, but Bankhead said he was too drunk to fight and rushed him in the doorway, according to the report. Bankhead said he left when his ex said she would call police, according to the report.

Bankhead was charged with aggravated assault and battery and was held on $25,000 bond at the county jail.
