CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Laurens County coroner has released new details in the investigation into a Clinton teen's death after he was shot on Sept. 22.

Coroner Nick Nichols said Eugene Kinard, 17, shot himself on the left side of the head. Nichols has not yet determined Kinard's manner of death as suicide or something else.

Clinton Public Safety Chief Robin Morse told FOX Carolina on Sept. 15 that there were no signs of foul play so far in their investigation, but had received conflicting information about what happened to Kinard.

"Some say he was playing Russian roulette, some stories say that's not the case," Morse said.

Morse said Kinard was with three other people when the shooting happened and one of them took a polygraph. He passed the test, Morse said. He said the man's story was that Kinard was playing with the gun when it accidentally went off.

Based on what the family has heard, they said Kinard could not have shot himself in the head the way it was reported because he was right-handed.

Kinard was on life support until he passed away on Sept. 23, according to Nichols.

Kinard's death remains under investigation.
