(WMC-TV) - DeSoto County Schools released a public statement against parent Heather Fox and her Facebook page DeSoto County Reform last week.

"From our standpoint, it's not an attack; it's a defense of the district in all that we do," said Keith Williams, DeSoto County School District.

Fox said she started the page because she felt like parents did not have a voice. She pulled her child from the district last year after questioning the air quality at Olive Branch Middle School. She started the page for parents to discuss problems at schools and bring changes in the county.

The district claims Fox's reports are only half truths that cause unnecessary panic.

"She has the right to free speech, and we honor that, but what she does not have the right to do is offer libelous and slanderous statements," said Williams.

Recently Fox posted rumors about shooting threats at a local high school. The district said the misinformation caused hundreds of parents to keep their kids home while DeSoto County lost money from the state for the low attendance.

Fox said she stands by the posts and believes parents should discuss everything when it comes to their children.

"I think a lot of the old-school way of thinking is you just keep everything quiet, you don't talk about things out loud, and I feel like there's nothing wrong with talking about it," said Fox.

The school district's attorney sent a letter to Fox regarding the Facebook page. She said she had not received that letter as of Monday afternoon.
