EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Gregbo Watson, a comic book artist in Easley, has created a character for a local digital publication.

Fête Greenville, an online local entertainment magazine, commissioned Watson for the job of creating Fête Girl, a superhero that aims to promote the paperless publication by calling for more digital news and less paper news.

But the environmentally-friendly character is not the only character in Watson's repertoire. He is a seasoned artist, and he gets his inspiration from his home.

"I draw stuff that gives people nightmares," Watson said. He has a life-sized Freddie Krueger doll in the entryway of his home, for starters. His walls are lined with classic movie posters, Wizard of Oz memorabilia, comic book action figures and more. They inspire him in his art.

Fête Girl may nor be his scariest creation, but she is his "greenest."

"Fête Girl is basically coming to the rescue of all Greenville citizens to save them from the mounds of wasteful paper," said Watson. "Greenville is now, with Fête Girl, the 'greenest' city around."

Watson lives with his son, Bret, who still is getting used to his dad's way of getting inspired.

"Normal dads, you don't normally see with a Boba Fett helmet on, going 'I just figured out something awesome I have to do for a comic book,'" said Bret. "I'll be sitting there and I'll get up and get something to eat and I'll look over and see a life-size Chucky or walk past life-size Freddie and forget that they're there, and just freak out."

For Watson, comic art is life.

"I think as an art form, it's one of our oldest art forms," he said. "It goes all the way back to the cave paintings, to heiroglyphics; I mean, before we had spoken language, we had comics."

Watson will be at a book signing for his latest installment of the Down the Rabbit Hole series. It will be Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Borderlands Comics in Greenville from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 4, at Richards Comics from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
