Townville sees jump in burglaries, deputies stepping up patrol

Posted: Updated:
TOWNVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The city of Townville saw a 25 percent increase in burglaries in the last six months, and now Anderson County deputies are putting more boots on the ground there to patrol the area and crack down on crime.

On Monday Lt. Sheila Cole, with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, said officials need the public's help to curb the problem.

"We think it's because there are a lot of part-time residents," Cole said. "We've had a lot of burglaries at businesses out there as well as residential homes. A lot of those are lakefront homes, people are not there all the time."

Cole said residents should be aware of when their neighbors are on vacation and keep a watchful eye on empty homes.
