ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

About a dozen residents at the Wexford Condominiums were evacuated overnight after fire broke out in one of the units.

Firefighters were called to Wexford Drive in Anderson just before 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson said the fire broke out in a third-floor condo. He said when firefighters arrived, they had the blaze contained to a living room and were able to rescue the person inside.

"That quick work made all the difference this morning to keep it contained to one unit," Gibson said.

"They did one heck of a job here this morning," Gibson continued. "They were able to put a ladder up to the third-floor balcony and rescue our only occupant. They're definitely heroes. They did a great job on this morning."

Deputies on the scene said a woman and her cat had to be rescued, but luckily no one was injured.

Firefighters are investigating what caused the fire. The severity of the damage is still unclear.
