NEWBERRY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A natural gas leak has closed part of U.S. 76 in Newberry, requiring drivers to expect delays.

Deputies initially said the eastbound lanes of Wilson Road were closed near the Captain D's Restaurant because of the leak. The restaurant is located between Kinard and Harrington streets.

Deputies said the break will be repaired, but the work is blocking one lane in each direction. Deputies said because of the narrowed traffic, there could be delays for several hours.

No one has been evacuated because of the leak, deputies said.

Drivers may want to take Interstate 26 east, College Street or other back roads as a detour.

Crews from Clinton Newberry Natural Gas, Newberry City Police, Newberry City Fire and Newberry Utilities are assisting at the scene.
