Stella the Meteorologist

Posted: Updated:

I had to share this picture of Stella!  The ladies at daycare set up this adorable shot of Stella doing the weather!  They took pics of all the babies doing what their parents do for a living.  Stella seems to be intrigued with the 7-day forecast!  I don't care what she does when she grows up, but I do hope she has an interest in science!

It has been a fun few days with Stella!  She had a weird night on Monday night, but I blame it on getting her schedule off!  I worked the morning show Monday morning, so Stella went to daycare from 7am-noon instead of her normal time.  This caused her to nap differently, and therefore sleep weird that night (she woke up 3 times!!!).  Luckily she is back to her 7:30pm-7:30am night sleep now (with one waking for feeding).  It's amazing how much babies get used to routines!

Now that Stella is almost 6 months, we will be thinking about starting solids!  I've read a lot of conflicting stuff about it too.  The one thing that seems consistent is that you DON'T start solids until 4-6 months, then once you do there don't seem to be too many rules.  I've heard that you don't want to give them peanut butter or honey for the first year, so that they don't develop allergies to those foods.  It seems like a lot of my friends and fellow moms are starting with veggies and fruit like sweet potatoes, carrots, bananas, etc.  However,  I did read a book that recommends more nutrient dense foods like egg yolks (soft boiled), and even mashed up liver!  It makes sense, because those are such high fat and high nutrient foods, but it seems like a pretty hard core way to dive into eating solids!

The other thing I'm hearing a lot is that many babies aren't ready for solids for a while!  I have a couple of coworkers that say their babies just won't eat solids yet, even at 7-8 months!  And this is normal!  So I'm prepared for Stella to protest and spit out what I attempt to feed her, but I do think it's about time to start trying!  She has been SO interested in our table food for a while.

So, tell me your stories of getting your babies to start eating solids!  Was it easy or a battle?  Any tips?  I've heard mixing breast milk/formula with the food can help ease them into it.  Thanks, as always, for your wonderful emails and advice!
