GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A chase involving a motorcycle turned deadly after the rider crashed Thursday night, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the South Carolina Highway Patrol was chasing the motorcycle when it crashed on CCC Camp Road and Wright Drive in Greer.

Troopers said they tried to stop the motorcycle when he ran a stop sign on Racetrack Road in Spartanburg County. That's when officials said the biker took off and crossed into Greenville County.

Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said the motorcyclist, 33-year-old James Logan, of Lyman, hit a speed bump, lost control along CCC Camp Road and was thrown from his bike.

Logan was wearing his helmet but died at the scene of the crash, Evans said.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation.
