SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
For the eighth year, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office ran Operation Rolling Thunder, a week-long effort to crack down on drivers attempting to smuggle drugs, money and counterfeit goods through the county.
The operation began Monday with an increased law enforcement presence along Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County. Eighty-six officers were brought in to assist, representing 21 local, state and federal agencies
During the last several years the operations have netted millions of dollars, hundreds of pounds of drugs and many arrests.
During their annual breakfast Friday, Sheriff Chuck Wright announced the operation seized marijuana, klonopin and morphine during the operation in addition to credit cards, counterfeit items, electronics and cash.
This week's operation led to 1,297 traffic cases, 103 criminal cases and the arrest of 25 people. More than 43 pounds of marijuana was seized along with $98,796.00 in cash.
The biggest seizure was about $60,000 during a stop early Thursday morning.
While less drugs were seized than in previous years, Wright said criminals had taken note of his message of, "Don't transport drugs into or through Spartanburg County."
Wright said there were no injuries to citizens or officers. In 2012, there was a fatal crash after a woman who deputies tried to pullover fled, leading to a high-speed chase and the death of her daughter.
The money seized will go back to the agencies involved in the operation.
