Upstate cyclists riding to Maine for cancer patients

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Seventeen cyclists along with teams of drivers, medics and navigators took off from the Greenville Health System Cancer Institute to ride to Lewiston, ME on Saturday morning.

The team is part of the Challenge to Conquer Cancer, a set of cycling teams who are raising as much money as they can for organizations throughout the Upstate and the country who help cancer patients.

Every five hours, the teams will switch off and take to the road until they reach their destination  in New England.

From there, they will take part in the Dempsey Challenge, an event full of running and bike races to raise money for a foundation created by Patrick Dempsey, star of the show Grey's Anatomy.

To help donate to the whole group, a certain team or a specific rider, head to c3ride.org. You can also use that website to follow the riders as they update the experience on their live blogs.
