North Carolina Democrats will hear from two of the state party's standard bearers at their annual fall gathering, including from a man raising his profile as a potential challenger to Republican Gov. Pat McCrory in 2016.
Attorney General Roy Cooper plans to speak Saturday morning at a woman's breakfast for the state Democratic Party's Western Gala in Asheville. U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan follows as the featured speaker at the Gala dinner at the Grove Park Inn.
Hagan is running for re-election next year. Cooper is getting more attention after a series of public statements criticizing Republican policies and suggestions he's poised to run for governor. Cooper has declined similar gubernatorial bids in the past.
Democrats are trying to rebound after losing control of both executive and legislative branches.
