Intersection where a shot was fired (FOX Carolina)
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Greenville police say someone fired a single gunshot in the middle of downtown Greenville.
Police say it happened at about 2 a.m. near North Brown Street and East North Street. Police tell us two officers were in the area when they heard what sounded to be a gunshot. The officers rushed to the area, and that's where they found four to five suspects running from the parking lot behind the Wireless Communications Building.
We're told as officers ran in that direction, the suspects hurried into a black Jeep, reversed quickly and took off. The officers were eventually able to get the Jeep to pull over. All five were taken out of the vehicle, and according to police, the car had an alcoholic odor to it.
A handgun was found inside the vehicle. Three of the suspects were arrested, and the other two have been released.
Laquan Harley, 20, is charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits, unlawful carry of a pistol, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, open container and public intoxication.
Shambray Carroll, 19, is charged with interfering with police, public intoxication open container and drivers license not in possession.
Sydney Griffin, 22, is charged with public intoxication and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
No one was injured.
Local community activist and the founder of Put the Guns Down Young People, Jack Logan, says although there were no injuries, he views this as a serious crime.
"This is serious because some innocent person could have been struck," said Logan. "It could have been me, could have been a child walking by that could have been struck and possibly dead."
